FAQs -- Frequently asked questions | - How do I make a deposit into my investment account?
- Write a check to TD Ameritrade
- On the “For” line, write your name as it appears
on your account and your account number, if you have it handy.
- Mail the check to our offices at 404 West Hess Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267. We will then track the deposit and
follow it through to completion.
- Can
I withdraw from my IRA account without penalty?
- Yes and no. It depends
on whether you are over 59 1/2. Over 59 ½ there is no penalty but it is taxable.
- But, if you are under 59 ½, there are a few exceptions that do not incur a penalty, but it
is also taxable.
- So, it is best to consult your tax
professional before taking any withdrawals.
- How
can I withdraw from my regular investment account?
- Call our office at 717-294-3030 (Often we are on the phone and so if you don’t get Ned or
Robert leave a message.)
- Tell us the amount you wish to withdraw and how soon you need the money. (You
can leave that information in a phone or email message, and we will notify you of its receipt as soon as possible.)
- Over-nighted checks incur a $15-charge, which is waived if the account is large enough. For regular mail there
is no charge.
- A wire transfer to your bank account requires
a pre-signed form along with a voided check that is on file with TD Ameritrade prior to a request for a wire transfer.
- How can I see my account online?
- Call the office and ask that your account be given a pin number.
- After you have notified the office and received a pin number, log on to ameritradeadvisor.com.
- Type in your account number and then put in your pin number.
- Voilè, you can see all your account information at any time. NOTE: Watching your account too closely
is like “watching a pot boil.” It’s better to check your account twice a month at the most.
Due to a volatile and fluctuating market your account can change daily and only a monthly assessment is really an accurate
picture.
- What does my account
value mean?
- All investors put the funds with a custodial investment firm.
Our custodian is TD Ameritrade.
- The custodian in turn invests
those funds with companies who grow and increase the value of those funds, which in turn increases the value of your investment.
- Should there be a downturn in the company’s profits, your
investment in the company devalues.
- Usually your advisor, Robert,
will “position” your funds in several companies, called “balancing your account.”
- REMEMBER: While at times your account value
may be down, you have NOT (!) lost money until your investment is sold at lower price than it was purchased. We normally
sell investments when the company’s holding is at a higher value than when it was purchased.
- Why do I get so much paper work?
- “Pre-Enron” companies were not required to disclose much of their activities. “Post-Enron,”
things have changed, and Ameritrade goes strictly by the book, therefore discloses all activities to the client.
- If you sign up for email deliveries, the paper work is eliminated,
and all of it comes to you online. This also enables you to access your account information at any time.
- How
much of the paper work do I need to keep?
- None! We keep copies of everything in the
office.
- You may want to keep your monthly statement until
the next month’s statement comes and then discard carefully (shred or burn) the previous month’s
statement.
